Recently bad news has been received from Portugal where some cities and neighboring countries were hit by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake.
The earthquake hit the Atlantic Ocean almost five miles southeast of Portugal’s capital Lisbon today.
The shocks were most intense in the Sines, Lisbon, and Setúbal areas, with reports on social media of the earthquake being felt as far as Porto, and even Spain and Morocco.

PORTUGAL EARTHQUAKE
According to the US Geographical Institute (USGS) and the Mediterranean Seismological Center, the Portugal earthquake was recorded on the morning of Monday, August 26.
It was reportedly felt as far as the country’s second city Porto, Spain, and Morocco.
According to Euronews, the Portuguese Ocean and Atmosphere (IPMA) later measured the magnitude of the Portugal earthquake at 5.3 on the Richter scale. SGS) and the Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded the earthquake on Monday morning, August 26.
According to IPMA, it was recorded at 5:11 am local time.
It said the epicenter was 36 miles (58 km) west of Sines and at a depth of 13 miles (21 km).
Today’s quake is the strongest one recorded in the region in 15 years, the outlet reports citing seismologists.
In 1755, a series of devastating earthquakes damaged the Lisbon port and killed around 60,000 people in the city alone.
It appeared business as usual in the water at popular spots like Ericeira and Nazare hours after the earthquake, with surfers seen in the water at Ericeira on surf cameras.
Earthquakes between 5.0 and 5.9 are considered moderate on the Richter scale, with up to 1,500 of those recorded annually around the world.
Extreme quakes at the other end of the scale – 9.0 to 9.9 – happen less than a handful of times per century.
