Frontman Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction punched guitarist Dave Navarro during an odd onstage tantrum that resulted in him being dragged offstage and brought a premature end to the band’s Friday night performance in Boston.
So today here at Observer Time we are going to discuss and observe the news of Perry Farrell’s reunion concert fight.
PERRY FARRELL REUNION CONCERT FIGHT
After becoming irritated, Farrell yelled “for you” to the Leader Bank Pavilion audience before approaching Navarro and shoving him with his elbows.
As Perry Farrell approached Navarro, who appeared to be truly perplexed by what was happening, he gently walked back while holding out his hand.
Perry Farrell kept throwing fists and had to be restrained by crew members and bassist Eric Avery.
Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins returned to the stage after the lights went down and Farrell was brought offstage.
They hugged, waved to the audience, and gave each other peace signs.
While shooting pictures at the reunion show, photographer Brian MacKenzie wrote on X that Farrell “had a full bottle of wine with him the entire evening” and that fans initially believed the altercation was only between the band.
Jane’s Addiction was supposed to perform on Sunday at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The band is now on its first reunion tour in fifteen years.
Regarding the event and whether the tour will go on, none of the band has responded. Perry Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell, who has been wed since 2002, however, used Instagram to clarify what transpired.
Night after night, Perry’s displeasure had been growing since he thought the band was drowning out his voice and the stage noise had become unbearable.
Every night, Perry experienced tinnitus and a sore throat, according to her. “But Perry lost it when the first-row audience began screaming at him and saying that the band was playing too loud and they could not hear him.”
Fellow band member Eric Avery allegedly “placed Perry in a headlock and struck him in the stomach three times” after the lights were turned down, according to Etty Lau, before Perry “walked off to the front of the stage to apologize to the audience for the show ended early.”
In September 2022, Perry Farrell said to the New York Post that he had missed playing with Navarro, who was battling long-term COVID.
“I wish my beloved guitarist could be here,” he remarked. “What is the process for locating a guitarist to replace Dave Navarro?”
One of the first groups from the early 1990s alternative rock trend to achieve widespread popularity was Jane’s Addiction, which was founded in 1985 and received five Grammy nominations in the process.
Stephen Perkins, the drummer for Jane’s Addiction, was commemorating his 57th birthday at the performance. Navarro, who appeared shocked by the sudden attack, threw a pick into the crowd before leaving the stage.
Earlier in the week, Farrell and Jane had a rough two shows at the Rooftop of Pier 17 in New York City on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I must be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice,” Farrell admitted to the crowd on Tuesday before adding “I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden.”
The next day, Avery posted to Instagram: “Looking forward to getting another crack at this spectacular rooftop venue tonight. I’m optimistic we will be better.”
In a recent interview with Guitar World, Avery was unsure if Jane’s Addiction would be still standing in 2025.
“I still don’t know if we’re a band that you ever assume will be here a year from now,” he told the magazine. “That being said, yeah… there is a revitalization and a reconnection. Let’s hope it lasts.”
