Observer Time: September 18, 2024
A star reporter covering Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign has been placed on leave after admitting to an affair with a former reporter.
So today here at Observer Time we are going to discuss and observe the news of Olivia Nuzzi.
OLIVIA NUZZI RELATIONSHIP
New York Magazine reported Thursday in a story first reported by STATUS that Washington reporter Olivia Nuzzi said she had a “personal relationship” with an unnamed campaign official while reporting on him. For the 2024 election, it failed.
It said this violated media standards requiring journalists to disclose personal interests that could influence their reporting.
“If the magazine had known about this relationship, it would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign,” it said. The magazine reviewed her work but found “no wrongdoing or evidence of malpractice.”
It added: “He is currently on hiatus from the magazine and the magazine is conducting a thorough third-party review. We apologize for this breach of trust from our readers.”
In an interview with the New York Times on Thursday, Olivia Nuzzi said, without saying the exact nature of their relationship, “Some of the conversations between me and a former reporter took place earlier this year.”
He said he didn’t speak to her directly this time, even though he had before in the case.
“The connection is not physical but must be demonstrated to avoid conflict.
I’m very sorry not to do it right now, I apologize to those who made me sad, especially my colleagues in New York, “he said. CNN and the New York Times reported that the speaker Kennedy, Stephanie Speer, told NBC News in a brief statement:
“Mr. Kennedy met Olivia Nuzzi only once in his life for an interview she requested, successfully.
He is a kind man, and he could turn the presidential race on its head.”
Nuzzi’s latest article, The Trump Interview, was published on September 9.
The online version has been updated with a “note to readers” linked to New York magazine. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer and then a pro-vaccine advocate, said he was dropping out of the race last month when he announced his support for Trump.
