According to CBS News, the American partner of the BBC, Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, is being criticized by the government.
Federal investigators searched Gracie’s mansion, the mayor’s mansion, on Thursday morning, hours before prosecutors filed their statement of intent.
So today here at Observer Time we will discuss and observe the news of the Eric Adams federal charges.
ERIC ADAMS FEDERAL CHARGES
Eric Adams, 64, was elected mayor of America’s largest city nearly three years ago, promising to crack down on crime.
But he and some of the top officials in his circle have come under increased scrutiny as part of a series of government corruption investigations, including whether his campaign received foreign legal aid from Turkey.
The exact costs will not be known until the lawsuit is filed.
Eric Adams became the first mayor in New York history to be impeached while in office.
He released a video message late Wednesday in which he vowed to fight the allegations and remain in office, asking for “religion and patience.”
In the video, he says, “I will fight these wrongdoings with all my strength and all my soul,” adding, “I have done nothing wrong,” and plans to ask for the “quick test” for New Yorkers to hear true.
He also accepted numerous calls to resign.
“Now, if I am sued, many may say that I should resign because I cannot control the city while I am fighting the case.
“I understand the feeling that regular New Yorkers would have reservations about my ability to perform their duties while facing allegations, but I have been dealing with these false accusations for months.
CBS News reports that federal prosecutors are set to release the indictment on Thursday, with Eric Adams scheduled to make his first court appearance.
Within a year of Eric Adams’ electronic devices being confiscated and his fundraiser leader, Brianna Suggs, being searched by federal agents at her home, charges have been filed.
The US attorney’s office in Manhattan was investigating whether Eric Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign team had collaborated with Turkey’s government to funnel illegal donations into the campaign, as was later disclosed.
On Monday, the New York Times reported that prosecutors and the mayor’s office were seeking information from five countries in question: Israel (Ukraine), China (France), Qatar (Qingluck), South Korea (Xinjiang), and Uzbekistan (China)
Despite the increasing number of officials demanding his resignation, Eric Adams has maintained his position that he will remain in office.
Earlier on Wednesday, US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a popular figure on the New York left joined the list. “I don’t know how Mayor Eric Adams can continue to govern New York,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in X.
Ocasio-Cortez pointed to a “flood of divisions and vacancies” he said threatened the City Council’s ability to act.
Eric Adams’ conviction comes weeks after federal agents seized electronic devices belonging to three people close to him school principal David Banks, his brother Vice Mayor Phil Banks, and his fiancée, Vice Mayor Sheena Wright.
In a surprise announcement on Tuesday, David Banks said he will retire at the end of the year.
The Manhattan Attorney’s Office is investigating Banks’ other brother, Terence, for a bribery scheme involving his consulting firm and city contracts.
Prosecutors at that agency are also investigating bribery allegations against the twin brother of former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, who resigned earlier this month weeks after officers arrested the government on his phone.
Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Donlon searched their homes last Friday.
In the past two weeks, the mayor’s legal counsel and the city’s health commissioner have also resigned.
Eric Adams, only the second black person to run New York City, is mounting a growing list of Democratic challengers before he seeks re-election next year.
New York’s Democratic governor, Kathy Hochul, a close ally of his who has yet to comment on the accusation, has the power to remove Eric Adams from office.
If Eric Adams’ term ends early, Juman Williams, the city’s public defender, is next in line to become the city’s acting mayor.
