The actor died of natural causes on August 21 in Los Angeles.

John Amos was nominated for an award for playing the elderly Kunta Kinta in the popular series “Roots”, based in Newark, New Jersey.
27, 1939, John Amos first tried to make it as a professional football player, playing for Colorado State University and briefly for the Kansas City Chiefs. Furthermore, he served in the New Jersey National Coast Guard.
Amos gained fame for his portrayal of James Evans on “Good Times,” which also starred Esther Rolle as Florida Evans opposite Norman Lear.
During the six-season run of the sitcom, which began airing in 1974 and continued throughout 1979.
Amos only briefly appeared in the first half of its run, as the show focused on issues such as inner-city crime, drug use, and poverty, with his family being involved in various household chores.
Amos appeared in various TV shows such as “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” where he played the role of Gordy, the weatherman on “Roots,” and later as Kunta (a prisoner in Texas)”.
Other credits on the small screen include roles in “Maude,” “Hunter,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “In the House,” “The District,” “All About the Andersons,” “Men in Trees,” “Two and a Half Men” and “The Ranch,” to name a few.
The actor also appeared in several films, including Let’s Do It Again (1975), Monster Master (1982), Coming to America (1988), Die Hard 2 (1990), Medea’s Witness Protection (2012) Kelly Christopher, and his first wife was Noel Mickelson.
