Tributes from business leaders, politicians, and the public have poured in for Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Sons India, who died on Wednesday at the age of 86.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Tata “a” in a post about X. “A visionary business leader, a caring soul, a wonderful person, his contribution extended beyond the classroom board.”
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet recalled a meeting with Tata in which they discussed Google’s self-driving car project.

TRIBUTES FOR RATAN TATA
“He left an impressive legacy of business and philanthropy and was instrumental in leading and developing new business organizations in India,” Pichai wrote in X, to a 2008 Jaguar-Land Rover, said to be under intensive care at a Mumbai hospital.
“The death of Ratan Tata is a great loss not only for the Tata group but for all Indians,” Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man and chairman of oil giant Reliance Industries, said in a statement on X.
“Tata took India to the world and brought the best of the world to India.” Tata, who received an architecture degree from Cornell University in 1962, joined the family business that same year.
Known for his philanthropy, he is the chairman of the Tata Trust, one of the largest philanthropic organizations in India.
N. Chandrasekaran, the current chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, expressed his gratitude in a statement on the company’s website:
“Mr. The strength of Almost philanthropy and community development have touched the lives of millions. He has left a lasting impression through his efforts in areas like education and healthcare, which will benefit future generations.
The group’s global expansion was aided by Tata’, who reportedly played a role in approximately 60 acquisitions.
“As the leader of the Tata Group, he demonstrated an unwavering dedication to excellence, integrity, and innovation, while maintaining its moral values throughout, Chandrasekaran stated.”
He was also the first chairman of one of India’s largest public companies.
According to Gautam Adani, the Chairman of Adani Group, Tata was a visionary and imposing figure who revolutionized the course of modern India.
Adani stated that Ratan Tata’s legacy in India was not solely driven by his business acumen but also reflected his values of honesty, empathy, and unwavering commitment to the greater good.
During a time when India’s economy appears to be in the right place, Anand Mahindra, the chairman of Mahindra Group, which competes with Tata Group in autos, spoke out to express his sadness over Ratan Tatha’s death.
“India’s economy stands on the cusp of a historic leap forward. And Ratan Tata’s life and work have done a lot for us in this regard.” Mahindra wrote in the X.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra, where the office head of the Tata Group in Mumbai, said Ratan Tata will be given a state funeral – an honor reserved for high-ranking government officials – and will be considered “expensive,” according to CNBC.
Ratan Tata was the chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to December 2012. According to the company, the group’s revenues under his management have reached more than 100 billion dollars.
