Some earthquake shocks were felt in Los Angeles and surrounding states in California.
7 km north of Malibu, a preliminary 4.7 magnitude earthquake was detected by the US Geological Survey.
The USGS reported that the earthquake was located approximately 11 kilometers below the surface.
In Orange County, where the shock was felt up to 72 kilometers away, some residents reported feeling objects in their homes move and their lamps swing.
So today here at Observer Time we are going to discuss and observe the news of the Los Angeles earthquake.
LOS ANGELES EARTHQUAKE:
Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles stated that fire authorities are surveying the city.
No immediate reports of injuries were made. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services in California declared that it was keeping a close eye on the earthquake and assessing any potential damage.
On Wednesday, several shared on social media that a jolt had woken them up early. Several celebrities shared their experiences on X.
“That #Earthquake was scary,” as Paris Hilton commented on X, and “Damn that was a big one,” as Khloe Kardashian shared. This year, the region has had multiple earthquakes.
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area Thursday morning, unleashing boulders onto a Malibu Road, visibly shaking Santa Monica’s 1909 wooden pier and jolting some people from bed. No injuries or damage were immediately reported.
The epicenter of the earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, was approximately 7 miles (11 kilometers) below the surface and 4 miles (7 kilometers) north of Malibu.
In Orange County, where it was felt up to 45 miles (72 kilometers) distant, residents reported feeling objects move within their houses. Authorities in the area said they were assessing the damage but had not discovered any significant issues.
According to Lt. Adam Zeko, the sheriff for Los Angeles County, the earthquake shook the region for roughly 15 to 20 seconds. “We are still checking key facilities,” Zeko, whose station covers the vicinity of Westlake Village and Malibu, stated. “At this point, nothing significant has happened.”
During the earthquake, a live camera at the 115-year-old Santa Monica Pier, which is located roughly 12 miles (19 kilometers) from Malibu, captured several seconds of extremely strong shaking.
At the epicenter, KTLATV said, a crew was cleaning big stones that had rolled onto Malibu Canyon Road.
Bruce Silverstein, a council member representing Malibu, stated that he has been a resident for 13 years and that this earthquake was the strongest one yet, although nothing broke. For two or three seconds, our house shook.
“I thought the windows could burst,” Silverstein remarked. The manager of The Country Kitchen breakfast restaurant in Malibu, Rene Vasquez, reported that the crew went outside for safety during the brief shaking that lasted a few seconds. “It was not too horrible,” Vasquez remarked.
“Thank God, there were no falls.” Many, including several celebrities, posted on social media that they felt jolted awake.
The media figure and hotel heiress Paris Hilton commented on X, saying, “That #Earthquake was scary.”
Kardashian, a reality TV personality, wrote on social media, “Damn that was a huge one.”
Some locals claimed to have received alerts from the state’s early warning system for earthquakes.
The earthquake occurred at the same time as three significant wildfires that are raging east of Los Angeles have caused thousands of people to flee their homes and destroyed hundreds of homes.
The blazes erupted during a blistering heat wave that had just subsided.
A 4.4 magnitude earthquake that struck in August jolted nerves from the Los Angeles area to San Diego, tilting buildings, toppling objects off shelves, and setting off car alarms, among other recent tremors felt in the region.
The temblor caused a pipe to burst at the ornate 1927 Pasadena City Hall building.
